NOT LONG TO GO
I am thrilled that we only have a few weeks before our tours debut this season! The trips are even more spectacular than I could have imagined, and I hope that you all agree it has been worth the wait.
Everything is just so pretty at the moment. So much of my scouting is done in the winter months, I forget just how full of colour our countryside can be.
It’s not even May and the stage is already set with delicately swaying bluebells, the sweet scent of honeysuckle and the brightly rippling fields of rapeseed all across the south.
It is absolutely gorgeous out there!
TIME TO INDULGE
I mentioned last month that we have a Vineyard Tour this year and I have had a great deal of fun sampling all the food and wine for it! It is everything a summer trip should be and just thinking about it makes me smile.
I created this tour for a day of pure summer indulgence and I know it is going to be the perfect excursion across some of the most beautiful counties in the south.
Our September date is nearly sold out but there are still spaces left in June so do come and try the delicious combination of local specialities and cheeses on this wine tasting extravaganza!
FOSSILS AND FORAGING
The West Country was my first love and I am always captivated whenever I visit.
Last year’s Mendip Bushcraft skills was so popular – and many of you asked us to repeat it – so we thought we would try a variation on our favourite Mendip tour this year.
I was delighted to discover the very talented Steve England, a multi award-winning naturalist and local conservationist. It is a real privilege to have Steve on the Fossil and Foraging tour with us this year.
I am convinced that great food is everywhere, and sometimes in the least likely of places!
Steve is an incredibly knowledgeable wildlife educator and will be inspiring us with clever and practical ways to survive off the land, foraging and sampling the extraordinary array of wild and edible foods and gaining insight into the Natural beauty all around us.
And no Mendip trip is complete without a visit to the magnificent Cheddar Gorge. We have added an extended hike on this tour, exploring the sensational views on the approach to the gorge from the south.
Now as you may know, last season we started using a group app to keep members up-to-date with the latest news on the tours. This worked great last year and was enormously helpful, especially as our members increase in number!
I thought I would take this opportunity to remind you all to download the app before the season starts so that you have access to the information you need before your trip. With so much demand on the tours this year, if you do find you are unable to make the date, the app is the perfect way to release your place to someone else.

Finally, a happy and belated Easter to you all! If chocolate is one of your vices – it’s certainly a splendid one to have.
Don’t forget to save the date for this year’s end-of-season party over the August Bank holiday weekend – I’m overjoyed that we’ll have the opportunity to celebrate at Cavefest 2019. Details will be going up to reserve your place in the next few weeks.
I hope you are all getting excited for the summer months ahead. If you are spending your holidays in the UK this year, I thoroughly recommend branching out to those National parks and Areas of Beauty that are further afield. I promise it is always worth the extra effort.
This weekend I’ll be back-and-forth between the glorious High Weald and far West Sussex. If you see me in a country lane driving in second gear (to circumvent the sauntering pheasants) give me a toot!
