Stuart - GoTread Guide

Your Guide: Stuart

First things first, I have a real passion for the outdoors and love the beautiful countryside we live in. I am very lucky to work as a Duke of Edinburgh Advisor for my Monday to Friday job. This gets me outdoors and working with 14 to 24-year-olds whilst giving them the opportunity to be the very best they can be.  I work across Hampshire and meet so many extraordinary participants and volunteers along the way. Working at GoTread lets me share my passion and experience with lots of new and exciting people. I look forward to seeing you on one of our fantastic tours.

TOUR DATE: SATURDAY 30th JUNE 2018

Brush-up on those wilderness and survival skills and experience the ancient and mythologic sites of the Mendip Hills in our Fire-Lighting Bushcraft Skills and Glastonbury Tour.

Designed to teach you everything you need to know about fire-lighting, this bushcraft course will take you through the science of fire including modern and primitive methods of lighting a fire. You’ll get to try your hand at finding and preparing tinder, wood gathering, and – most important of all – correctly building your own fire!

In the afternoon we continue the adventure by heading to the famous Glastonbury Tor to learn about the legends of King Arthur and the Holy Grail. After a short hike to the summit of Glastonbury Tor, you’ll experience the exhilarating views of Somerset and relax with a well-earned picnic including local cider and cave-matured cheese.

Then we descend into the beautiful gardens and orchards of Britain’s most ancient wells – the Chalice Well. As you soak in the tranquillity of this astoundingly peaceful location you can even take a drink from the famous ‘Blood Spring’ itself!

And of course, no Glastonbury trip would be complete without an exploration of the celebrated town itself – we guarantee you’ll enjoy the quirky and colourful town shops and energetic entertainment!

A great day out in the Mendips learning some survival skills and about this part of Somerset.
The fire lighting skills were eye opening, from primitive methods using flint and iron, to modern methods using a fire steel.
The walk up to the Glastonbury Tor was a nice close to the day, combined with a cold cider at the top whilst enjoying the view.
I’d recommend this tour for anyone interested in dipping their toes in outdoor survival skills, or if you just enjoy being in the great Somerset countyside.
