The Wait is Finally Over!

It’s wonderful news! We’re back up and running in August! [Drum-roll please].

To be able to adventure together is WONDERFUL and I am so looking forward to seeing you all again!

As the restrictions ease, it is indeed a strange feeling to be seeing friends, family and colleagues in person – but to be honest the extrovert in me has been craving it for months. It’s time to inject some life back into our weekends don’t you think?

We’re working hard to keep you all COVID-safe this summer and I am rather pleased with my artistic rendition of our safety rules for the tours. [Ok, ok, it’s true I have too much time on my hands].

We have some changes in place to ensure we protect ourselves and the others around us – and, as promised, you’ll be the trendsetters of the hills with our rather fetching (and somewhat luminous) GoTread face masks which finally arrived last week!

The tours have been filling up quickly, and I need to apologise for the frustrations with our website. It has taken an update and is now refusing to cooperate with bookings! If you do run into difficulty with it – drop me a line and I shall sort it out at this end 🙂

There are a few spaces left on the tours – if you’re yet to book yourself on, do check-out our activity page.

This season is certainly a celebration of wildlife! I am over-the-moon that our coastal sea-kayaking trip is back this summer – after the chaotic events that unfurled at Durdle Door earlier during lockdown, I was anxious that the National Trust would close this British natural World Heritage Site completely.

If you’ve never been before, the Jurassic coastline is simply dazzling, and a 2-person kayak is the perfect setting to discover Dorset’s marine species including birds, crabs, fish and seagulls in their natural habitat.

I also love that we have the award-winning naturalist and conservationist Steve England with us again this season!

Steve is a wonderfully passionate and incredibly knowledgeable wildlife educator, and this year he is taking us on a fantastic after-dark Bat Adventure.

This tour is inspired by a love of all things nocturnal. Equipped with bat echo locators, we’ll learn all about the various species of bat which live on the reserve.

And it’s not just bats! This is a wonderfully unique opportunity to hear and see the secret and mystical world of all the after-dark residents on the estate – hedgehogs, foxes, owls, badgers and more!

I must give a mention to our awesome GoTread Season PARTY! I was heart-broken that we had to cancel the event this year – but we now have the dates for 2021! Just imagine a whole weekend of star gazing, lake swimming and wild camping in the Lake District. Bliss ?

Hedgehog rescue

And finally, a big request from me to #SupportLocal.

It continues to be a turbulent and uncertain summer for everyone across the world and many local businesses and communities are struggling to find funds to keep going over the weeks and months ahead.

I have been disappointed to hear that some of our GoTread local activity providers do not think they will be re-opening next year.

Your community really needs your support and kindness to re-build.

As you know, donations from GoTread go towards supporting as many philanthropic communities as possible, and this month I’d like to give a shout out to the lovely Yvonne Cox at Hedgehog Rescue.

Yvonne and her volunteers take in and provide sanctuary for around 300 hedgehogs that are found each year. Hedgehog Rescue depend heavily on donations from the public to carry out their crucial rescue work, treating injured hedgehogs all over the West of England.

We’ve provided a small donation from the club to help them in these difficult times – if you’d like to add your support personally please donate through their website or follow them on Facebook for videos of all these prickly cuties!

I hope everyone is enjoying plenty of time outdoors.

Stay happy, see you soon
